Abstract

The review deals with the different aspects of dendritic cells (DCs) in atherogenesis. Implementation of the effector functions of dendritic cells, expressed either in activation or suppression of immune responses, depends on their tissue microenvironment. The balance between inflammatory and antiinflammatory effects of dendritic cells is mediated by regulatory T-cells as well. DC phenotypes are described for mature and precursor cells.
