The dual task method for cognitive and physical health
Abstract
The increased life expectancy, the aging of the Earth's population, and the reduced physical activity in work and everyday life have changed the nosological profile of mankind. The prevalence of tumors, cardiovascular, neurodegenerative diseases, stress conditions, and other dysregulations has increased. Cumulative neurological pathology has become the most common cause of disability and one of the most common causes of death. This unfavorable trend can be largely overcome by a kind of exercise for the brain that complicates its work by the requirement to perform two tasks simultaneously. Both tasks can be either motor or cognitive, or one task can be motor and the other cognitive. The synchronous performance of two tasks improves the brain function in old age and in many diseases.
